Green Periods: Protecting Our Heritage and Our Environment

The Maasai people have always lived in harmony with the land, respecting the natural cycles of the earth. However, the modern challenge of plastic waste—including disposable menstrual products—poses a threat to our environment and our traditional way of life. Naretu Entito Emaa is committed to a “Green Period” revolution, proving that we can provide modern health solutions while remaining steadfast protectors of our environment.
Disposable sanitary pads are often made of up to 90% plastic and can take hundreds of years to decompose. In areas without advanced waste management systems, these products often end up in our fields or water sources, harming livestock and the ecosystem. Our sustainable menstrual solutions offer a better way. By promoting reusable pads and eco-friendly practices, we are significantly reducing the environmental footprint of menstrual care in our region.
Our commitment to sustainability is a commitment to our heritage. We teach girls and women that caring for their bodies and caring for the earth go hand in hand. Through our workshops on hygiene and sanitation, we emphasize the importance of clean water and proper care for reusable products, ensuring that our health initiatives contribute to the overall well-being of our community and our land. Join us as we pave the way for a cleaner, healthier, and more dignified future for all.
